They said the tr...Some really great memories Alan. They said the tree would never survive, they were going to bury the trunk in 3 foot of dike. That was where I learned how a tree well worked. I have saved a few other trees in the same way since. I was just looking at that tree the other nite on google maps street view. If you go to the end of the culdesack and look to the east you can still see that old Burr Oak standing tall. Another memory of that week of destruction was the dragline pulling up that (as I remember) 3 foot snapping turtle that was living in the pool behind the house. They dropped it right in out back yard while building the dike. Ah yea the dike, the one that we spent a summer removing a few years later, creating fear in all of the neighbors minds. Making our yard the outlet to the creek when the next flood came along and actually saving the neighbors from being flooded again.
